EDIE green with multi-instrumentalist sophie wiegele
How did the members of Edie Green align themselves?
We met lining up for Nando's. Fortunately we all have an interest in music.
Where did the name Edie Green come from?
Edie was the name of a good girlfriend of mine, who also turned out to be quite a crazy woman. But at the time the band got together she wanted to name it, so she named it after herself and her favourite smoking material.
I've seen pictures of bonfires and heard Tony from Old Blood is the star in your next video, is this the first clip you guys have done? Is it easy to show the story your music is telling through a visual medium?
Yep this is our first one, Tony's so good in it too. I suppose all songs make you feel a certain way, and bring images or themes even colours to mind, that's what we played off for this track. We worked with Tulusa Pictures and Cody Roberts on the video and what we've come up with is actually a pretty good representation, nice and dark.. Getting excited to release it.
Who are the bands you all listen to or draw inspiration from?
We're all pretty different, I listen to Erykah Badu, The Black Keys and Betty Davis quite a bit, Tyler is more into jazz funk and blues, Elliot is down for more metal music stuff and Conor digs The Strokes, Extreme and other 80s glam rock jams. As a band we all seem to like The Pixies, Hiatus Kaiyote and Radiohead, as well as The Soul Zodiac.
Conor is pretty dam good on guitar, has he ever missed note by getting lost in that mane when it is flicking around?
Probably. Though to be honest he plays guitar through sense of smell so doesn’t need his eyesight much for the task.
How has recording at Blackbird studios been?
Real good, Dave is very funny and just generally a great guy. He is a bit of a wizard when it comes to grabbing a great sound from anything. We've fairly much finished recording and mixing our new EP there now, was good with the litre tubs of hummus to keep us at it.
Which bands in Perth are doin' it good at the moment?
Methyl Ethyl are sounding great, GRRL PAL are doing big things, Oakland just released their first EP which is sick, Koi Child making it real, heaps of people really.. The Perth music scene is fresh and well hydrated right now, pumping out some great lovin' stuff.
Are there any upcoming releases for Edie Green and when should we be calling in sick to work?
We should be releasing our first music video in end September and then releasing this second EP early next year.
